Lutein
Lutein is a yellow carotenoid pigment, and is one of over 600 known naturally occurring carotenoids found in various fruits, corn, vegetables (kale, spinach), and flowers (marigold, tagetes). Lutein has strong antioxidant properties (Source: Photochemistry and Photobiology, May 2002, pages 503–596).
Reporting at the Beyond Beauty Conference in Paris in 2006, lead researcher Professor Pierfrancesco Morganti, professor of applied cosmetic dermatology at the University of Naples, Italy, explained that either oral or topical lutein improves skin hydration, elasticity and lipid content.
